Today's topic is catheterisation. Part of good nursing is linking theory to practice, so this video is all about the theory of catheterisation. It doesn't teach the procedure, because that's something to do in face to face practical situations. Catheterisation is frequently done inappropriately. I have seen so many situations where critical thinking was lacking, and obviously the background knowledge had not been updated, so hopefully this video will help you to think more thoroughly about what you are planning to do. This video is around 25 minutes in length.

PPE - Donning and Doffing
Here is a quick, helpful article on PPE from Ausmed. This is a free resource. There is a very good video embedded into it from NSW Clinical Excellence Commission.

Notes, reports and incidents!
Aged Care Educator provides informative, evidence-based, person-centred education for all who work in aged care, or who care for the elderly in any capacity. With a wealth of experience and knowledge, our team aim to provide up to date short education sessions that encourage you to keep learning and provide the best care possible for our precious elders.
So let's get right into it. One thing I have noticed in aged care, and often nursing in general, is that a lot of staff don't really know how to write notes. Electronic systems take away a lot of the need for notes, but even then, you still need to have good record keeping when something out of the ordinary happens. You never know when your notes might be part of an investigation, or a complaint, so it's really important to be able to write relevant and accurate notes. This presentation looks at the basics of writing a progress note or incident report.
We welcome any suggestions for topics, so if there's something that you find challenging, or would like more information, please drop us a line and we will do a review of the latest literature for you!
